The new browser-based Cursors-4U Editor is live, and it is now the easiest way to build cursor artwork directly on Cursors-4U.

Cursors-4U Editor Canvas

You can draw a cursor from scratch, import existing artwork, hand-tune multi-size cursor files, animate frame-by-frame, export Windows-ready files, and submit your finished cursor to the Cursors-4U library without downloading a separate design app.

Start here: open the Cursor Editor, or keep the Editor Handbook nearby for the full tool reference.

What You Can Make

The editor is built for real cursor files, not just preview images:

  • Static Windows cursors: Draw and export single-frame .cur files with the hotspot saved into the file.
  • Animated cursors: Build frame-by-frame .ani files with custom per-frame delays.
  • Multi-size cursor artwork: Keep separate hand-drawn sizes in one project so small cursors stay crisp and high-DPI cursors still have detail.
  • Full cursor sets: Package multiple cursor roles into a Windows-ready ZIP with a generated install.inf.
  • Artwork backups: Export transparent PNG frames when you want editable backups outside the cursor format.

Quick Start

  1. Draw or import artwork: Use the pencil, eraser, fill, picker, and selection tools, or drag in PNG, WebP, JPG, GIF, SVG, ICO, .cur, or .ani files.
  2. Set the hotspot: Pick the exact pixel where Windows should register the click, then preview how the cursor behaves.
  3. Export or submit: Download a .cur, .ani, PNG backup, or full cursor set ZIP, or send the finished cursor to the moderation queue.

A Complete Drawing Studio in Your Browser

We built the editor to be lightweight and fast while still giving cursor creators the core tools they expect from a pixel-art workspace:

  • Focused drawing tools: Switch between the pixel pencil, eraser, paint bucket, color picker, selections, and transforms without leaving the canvas.
  • Layered pixel editing: Create, reorder, lock, link, duplicate, transform, and merge layers while keeping merge actions undoable.
  • Selection masks and bleed protection: Draw, paint, or erase inside the active selection so edits stay inside the area you meant to touch.
  • Previewed rotations and flips: Test 90-degree rotations, horizontal flips, and vertical flips before applying them to the active artwork.

Frame-by-Frame Animation Timeline

Creating animated cursors (standard .ani files) used to require specialized, outdated Windows software. The Cursors-4U Editor brings animation timeline tools right into the browser:

  • Inline Frame Management: Create, duplicate, delete, and reorder animation frames in a clean timeline strip below the canvas. Each frame shows a live thumbnail preview of your artwork.
  • Speed & Delay Controls: Set custom display durations (delays) for individual frames or apply a uniform speed across the entire animation to get your cursor's movement perfectly calibrated.
  • Real-Time Preview Pane: Watch your animation play live on a dedicated preview canvas as you edit. This lets you immediately see how smooth the frames look at actual size.

Workspace Navigation & Canvas Controls

Pixel art requires extreme precision. We’ve added professional workspace controls to help you navigate your canvas smoothly:

  • Wheel Zoom & Scale Chip: Zoom in up to 2400% for pixel-perfect detail using your mouse wheel over the canvas. A dedicated zoom chip displays your current canvas scale so you always know your exact zoom level.
  • Inline Workspace Project List: You don't have to work on just one cursor at a time. The workspace sidebar lets you maintain multiple projects simultaneously and switch between them with a single click.
  • Local Project Recovery: Workspace projects are saved locally in your browser, making it easier to come back to unfinished cursor work.
  • Keyboard Shortcuts: Work faster with support for standard keyboard shortcuts, including Select All (Ctrl+A), Copy/Paste, and multi-step Undo/Redo.

Multi-Size Importing & Compatibility

The editor isn't just for starting from scratch—it is fully compatible with existing cursor files:

  • Full File Parsing: Drag and drop standard single-size or multi-size .cur files, or multi-frame .ani archives, directly into the editor. It reads the file structure and populates your workspace with the available sizes and frames.
  • Real Multi-Size Editing: Manage sizes such as 32x32, 48x48, 64x64, 72x72, 96x96, 128x128, and 256x256 in one project. These can be hand-tuned sizes, so a 32x32 cursor does not have to be a rough downscale of a 256x256 drawing.
  • High-DPI Support: Modern operating systems choose different cursor images depending on display scaling. Multi-size exports help cursors stay readable on both standard monitors and high-DPI displays.

One-Click Exports & Direct Submissions

Sharing your creations is easier than ever. When your artwork is complete, the editor offers flexible export and sharing options:

  • Cursor File Exports: Download your cursor as a static .cur file or animated .ani file with hotspot and frame timing data included.
  • PNG Backups: Save transparent PNG artwork backups, including a single PNG for still cursors or a ZIP of PNG frames for animations.
  • Full Windows Cursor Sets: Design a complete set (Pointers, Help, Working, Busy, Text, etc.) and export the entire collection in a ZIP file. The editor automatically generates a custom install.inf file inside the ZIP. Users just unzip the folder, right-click the installer, click "Install," and the whole cursor theme is set up on Windows!
  • Direct Library Submissions: You can submit your finished cursors directly to Cursors-4U from the editor interface. This uploads your cursor to our moderation queue with your creator name and tags attached, making it simple to contribute to the community collection.

Check Out the Handbook!

To help you get started, we have put together a comprehensive Editor Handbook directly inside the app. It covers everything from drawing basics and importing assets to advanced animation tips and export troubleshooting. We highly recommend reading through the documentation pages if you want to get the most out of the workspace!

Help Us Squish the Bugs!

While the editor is fully functional and ready for public use, this is its initial public release. We expect some bugs and edge cases to crop up as more of you start painting and importing. If you run into any issues, spot something behaving weirdly, or have ideas for new features, please drop us an email at tor@cursors-4u.com. We want to make this tool as solid as possible, and your feedback is incredibly valuable!

Other Updates That Landed in May

The editor is the headline, but we also shipped several visual and performance upgrades across Cursors-4U last month:

  • A Refined Logo & Clean Colors: We redesigned our logo mark to sit natively on the header, featuring a computer mouse whose cord wraps around into a heart shape—representing our motto: Love Every Click. We also cleaned up our color theme and replaced the rainbow download button with a clean outline design.
  • A More Compact Homepage: We redesigned the homepage splash banner to save roughly 200px of vertical space, bringing cursor galleries much higher up the page when you load the site.
  • Hiding Live Cursor: For those that don't want to see the live cursors, you can now click a button to disable it on the single cursor page. This does help speed up the browsing experience by a bit.  This feature is on by default.
  • Speed & CPU Optimizations: We completed a massive code cleanup that reduced page asset sizes by 145.1 KB (44.2%) for faster load times. We also stripped out laggy hover transitions and heavy shadows to save CPU usage, keeping the site snappy on mobile and laptops.
  • Smoother Browsing & Lower GPU Usage: Pages full of animated cursors were quietly working your graphics card overtime. We did a deep optimization pass on how the browse and category pages render—trimming unnecessary GPU work like extra compositing layers, a heavy page backdrop, and redundant blending behind every looping preview. Busy listing pages now use up to half the GPU they did before—and in some spots far less, with up to a 5× reduction on the compact set view—so scrolling stays smooth and laptops or integrated-graphics machines run cooler with better battery life. Individual cursor and set pages were already light, and stay that way.
  • Snappy Comments: The comments section has a new card layout with rotating avatar gradients for clean and interactive community discussions.
  • Smart Sharing & Landing Pages: Category and tag landing pages (like /animated) now feature expandable cards showing exact cursor counts and summaries. Plus, sharing any link on platforms like Discord or Twitter will now generate rich Open Graph preview cards showing cursor thumbnails.
  • Privacy-First Analytics: We moved to a self-hosted, cookie-less analytics setup (Umami) that runs on a lightweight script to respect your privacy and speed up browser load times.

Try the Cursor Editor, make a small 32x32 cursor first, set the hotspot, and export a .cur. When you are ready, submit it from the editor and we will review it for the Cursors-4U library.
