Hey everyone! We've rolled out two big updates today, and they each improve Cursors-4U in a very different way. One is all about bringing back the old-school version of the site people remember. The other is about making the modern site faster and cleaner to browse. So here's a quick look at both.

Cursors-4U Classic Is Live

If you ever used the site back in the day, this one should feel very familiar. We launched old.cursors-4u.com, a faithful recreation of the classic Cursors-4U design that so many people grew up with.

That means the sky blue look, the cursor header, the striped cursor cards, the old navigation style, and all the weird little details that gave the site its personality are back. We wanted it to feel like opening the site in the mid-2000s again, not just a modern page with a retro skin on top.

Some of the classic features you might remember:

• The original visual style — classic backgrounds, hover effects, sidebar blocks, and the overall layout people remember best
• Old-school entry pages — including classic ratings, classic comments formatting, and the familiar embed code setup
• Favorite of the Month and legacy pages — including the old FAQ and About pages with all their original charm still intact
• The full cursor library — not just a small archive, but the actual library people browse today presented in the classic style

The goal here wasn't to make a museum piece. It was to make something people could actually use. If you miss the old site, you can now browse the library in that classic layout again while still seeing the same cursor collection that's available on the main site. However, comments are disabled, and a lot of features that the new site will have and have, won't be on there.  It took a long time to get the old site up, and I personally don't have enough time to manage two front facing properties.  Especially ver. 4.0, which I have been spending up to 18 hours a day on.

Compact View Is Here

On the complete opposite end of the spectrum, we also added a new Compact View to the modern site.

Sometimes you don't need titles, ratings, buttons, and extra previews all at once. Sometimes you just want to scan a lot of cursors quickly and click the ones that catch your eye. Compact View was built for exactly that.

In compact mode, listing pages are stripped down to a cleaner grid focused mostly on the cursor previews themselves. It makes browsing feel lighter, faster, and less cluttered, especially on pages with lots of cursor sets.

What compact view changes:

• Cleaner cards — less visual noise, more focus on the actual cursor preview
• Faster browsing — fewer images and extras loading up front
• Better set browsing — sets still stand out visually, and you can flip through previews without leaving the page
• Quick access — you can switch between compact and full view anytime from the top bar
   

The Numbers

We tested compact mode against the full expanded view, and the savings were noticeable right away.

On the homepage, compact mode reduced the page from 109 requests down to 89. Total resource weight dropped from 3.5 MB to 2.9 MB, which works out to about 600 KB saved or roughly an 18% reduction.

On the sets page, the difference was much bigger. Compact mode dropped the page from 141 requests to just 40. Total resource weight went from 2,626 KB down to 1,470 KB, saving about 1,156 KB overall. That's a 72% reduction in requests and about a 44% reduction in bandwidth.

In other words, if you're casually browsing and just skimming for cursors that catch your eye, compact mode means less clutter, fewer downloads, and faster page loads without taking away the option to switch back to the full layout whenever you want.

Two Different Ways To Browse

These two updates are very different, but they come from the same idea: people use Cursors-4U in different ways.

Some people want the nostalgic version they grew up with. Some people want the fastest possible way to scan through a huge number of cursors. Now both options exist. You can jump into the classic site if you want the old experience back, or use compact view on the modern site if you want a quicker, cleaner way to browse.

Edit: Performance Improvements (April 5, 2026)

We pushed a round of under-the-hood performance fixes to the modern site today. These mostly target users on older or slower hardware, but everyone should see some benefit.

• Comments load on scroll — entry pages no longer fetch the comments section on page load. Comments now load when you scroll down to them, which speeds up the initial page render.
• Search and favorites are snappier — rapid clicking through sort options, pagination, or search results no longer causes stale content to flash on screen. Only the most recent request wins.
• Fixed several memory leaks — carousel handlers, image observers, and favorites lookups were cleaned up to prevent the page from getting sluggish over time, especially after browsing through multiple pages of results.
• FOTM sidebar goes compact — the Favorite of the Month card in the sidebar now properly compacts with the rest of the page, including the stacked card effect and image cycler.
